SMS delivery log

Use the SMS delivery log in Slovio to see every message's status, failure reason, charge and refund, filter by number, sender or status, and export a campaign.

4 min readUpdated

The SMS delivery log shows every SMS your account sent: who it went to, from which sender, whether it was delivered, why it failed, what it cost and whether it was refunded. Open it from a broadcast (View recipients) to see one campaign, or from the Message log to see the whole account.

Open the delivery log

  • One campaign: open SMS → Broadcast tab, open the broadcast's menu and choose View recipients.
  • Whole account: open More → Insights → Message log and choose the SMS tab.

What the columns mean

Column Shows
Sent When the message was queued.
To The recipient's number.
Sender The sender ID (header) it was sent from.
Status Where the message is, with a one-line explanation (below).
Reason Why it failed or was rejected, for example "sender id … is not registered" or "This number is on DND".
Charged The price of the message. A struck-through price marked "not charged" was quoted but never taken from the wallet.
Refund Whether a failed message's charge came back (below).

Statuses

Status Meaning
Queued Accepted and priced, not yet offered to a carrier. Not charged.
Handed to carrier The carrier accepted it and the wallet was charged. No delivery receipt has come back yet. For older messages none ever will; that does not mean it failed.
Delivered The carrier confirmed the phone received it.
Failed The carrier refused it (never charged), or accepted it and then failed; check the Refund column.
Rejected Slovio refused to send it before any carrier saw it, for example an unregistered sender or template. Nothing was charged; the reason is on the row.

In the status filter, Handed to carrier is called Handed over.

Refunds

Refund Meaning
Refunded The wallet has the credit back. The DLT fee is never refunded.
Not refunded It failed under delivery billing and no credit is in the wallet. Contact support.
— Nothing to refund: never charged, still in progress, or sent under billing where a failure keeps the charge.
Could not check The wallet ledger did not answer for this page. This is a missing reading, not a refund that did not happen.

A refund returns the SMS base price and any markup. The operator's DLT fee is charged when the message is submitted and is never returned.

  • Window: Last 24 hours, Last 7 days (the default), Last 30 days or Last 90 days. A campaign view always shows the whole campaign.
  • Search number or sender ID: the last digits of a number are enough (at least 4). A sender ID must be typed in full.
  • Status: All, Delivered, Handed over, Failed, Rejected or Queued. Select Clear to reset.
  • Refresh reloads the log; the page shows when it was last counted.

At the top, Messages, Delivered, Rejected and Charged summarise the current filter. Delivered is a share of the messages a carrier has answered on, not of everything sent.

If no carrier has reported back on any message in the filter, a banner says "No delivery receipts … these messages are not failures."

Export a campaign

In a campaign's view, select Export. The file is prepared in the background; select Download when it is ready, or Retry export if it failed.

Worked example

Kaveri Organics sent its "Order shipped" SMS to 2,000 customers and opens View recipients the next morning:

To Sender Status Reason Charged Refund
919876543210 KAVERI Delivered — ₹0.20 —
919812345678 KAVERI Failed This number is on DND ₹0.20 Refunded
918765432109 KAVERI Handed to carrier — ₹0.20 —

(Prices here are illustrative; yours come from your rate card.) They filter Status → Failed to see every DND number, and export the campaign to clean their list.

Common questions

Does "Handed to carrier" mean the SMS failed?

No. The carrier accepted it and it was charged, but no delivery receipt has arrived yet. Older messages may stay in this state permanently.

Was I charged for a rejected message?

No. A rejected message never reached a carrier, so nothing was charged. The reason on the row tells you what to fix.

Why is my refund smaller than the charge?

The operator's DLT fee is charged at submission and is never refunded. A refund returns the SMS base price and any markup.

How far back can I look?

Up to 90 days in the account view. A campaign view shows the whole campaign.

Where do I find one customer's SMS?

Type the last 4 or more digits of their number in Search number or sender ID.
