When Slovio deducts money from your wallet for messages, broadcasts, calls and AI, which failed or unsent messages are refunded, and where to check each charge.
2 min readUpdated
Slovio charges your prepaid wallet for each message when it is sent and for each call by the minute. Failed messages are refunded automatically. Every deduction is listed in the account menu → Subscription & wallet → Wallet Logs.
How messages are charged
Each message is charged when it is sent, at the rate for its channel, country and (for WhatsApp) category. Current rates are on slovio.ai/pricing and in Subscription & wallet → Pricing & countries.
- Failed messages are refunded automatically. If a message fails, its charge returns to your wallet.
- WhatsApp categories: marketing, utility, authentication and service messages have different rates. Meta decides the category from your template.
- Service messages (replies inside the 24-hour window) and utility messages sent inside the window are charged from 1 October 2026.
How broadcasts are charged
When a broadcast starts, the estimated cost for the whole audience is taken from your wallet. As messages go out, the actual cost is settled. Anything not sent or failed (for example, invalid numbers) is returned to your balance.
How calls are charged
Calls are charged per minute.
- Outbound: the estimated cost is held before the call connects. The unused part is returned when the call ends. If the balance is too low, the call does not start.
- Inbound: charged per billable minute.
How AI usage is charged
AI replies and summaries are included or billed depending on your plan. AI usage that is billed appears as a monthly "AI usage" invoice. If you add your own AI provider key (More → Workspace → API keys), that provider bills you directly for chat AI instead. Calls stay on the per-minute rate. More → Insights → AI token usage shows what was used. See Bring your own AI key.
Check your charges
Subscription & wallet → Wallet Logs lists every credit and deduction with its balance before, amount, description, type and reference, so you can match it to the campaign, conversation or call.
Worked example: a broadcast with bad numbers
Reddy Organics, Vijayawada, sends a WhatsApp marketing broadcast to 2,000 contacts. Say the marketing rate is ₹0.90 per message.
- At start, ₹1,800 (2,000 × ₹0.90) is taken from the wallet.
- 1,940 messages are sent. 60 fail because the numbers are not on WhatsApp.
- ₹54 (60 × ₹0.90) is returned to the wallet.
Result: the broadcast costs ₹1,746. Wallet Logs shows the deduction and the refund against that broadcast.
Common questions
Am I charged for failed messages?
No. Failed messages are refunded to your wallet automatically.
Why was my broadcast blocked from starting?
The wallet did not cover the estimated cost for the whole audience. Recharge, or send to a smaller segment.
Are replies inside the 24-hour window free?
Not from 1 October 2026. From then, service messages and in-window utility messages are charged.
Does my own AI key affect call charges?
No. Calls stay on the flat per-minute rate. Your key only affects chat AI.
